Motorcycle thefts |

Thank you for joining this group. Unfortunately we have been seeing a significant increase in motorcycles being stolen within the Lisburn and Castlereagh area. Since March 2026 we have had reports of over 20 stolen motorcycles, with only a number of these having been recovered. The stolen bikes have mostly been 125cc and many have been stolen by breaking the steering lock on the bike. We are working with our colleagues in neighbouring districts to problem solve why we are seeing an increase in this particular crime type and we are keen to get the views of the people who know motorcycles best. We believe some are being stolen to enable people to drive dangerously and many of these are then dumped. We cannot however rule out that some may be being stolen in order to be broken and sold in parts. We will be working to establish what we think are the most likely reasons these thefts are being committed to see best how we can tackle this.
We would advise you to consider increasing preventative measures and consider the use of DNA marking or trackers on your own vehicles. We would also urge you to contact Police if you observe anything suspicious.
Thank you for your help and please do get in touch if you think there is anything you can advise that may assist us in tackling this crime. | ||
