Dear Resident,
We have received a report of an attempt theft of motorbike which occurred in the Scartho Ward Area.
Due to this being a live investigation, we are unable to share full details with you, however please remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour via 101.
If you are a motorbike owner, please consider additional crime prevention methods, such as the following:
Physical Security - Disc Lock: This secures the brake disc and prevents wheel rotation. - Heavy chain & D-lock: Thread this through the frame or swingarm, not just the wheel. Secure this to an immovable object for additional security (such as a ground anchor). - Bike Cover: Conceals the make and model of the vehicle and adds an additional step for thieves.
Electronic Security - Alarms and immobilisers: Fit a Thatcham-rated alarm with immobilisation and movement sensors. - GPS Trackers: Hide a tracker under the seat or inside fairings. Trackers can provide real-time locations, geofencing alerts and can assist in recovery success.
Smart Parking & Daily Habits - Always lock the steering: it costs nothing and greatly slows roll-away theft. - Park in well-lit, busy areas where thieves are less likely to operate. - At home, use a garage or shed with upgraded locks and lighting. - Remove Keys, even for short stops as thieves exploit moments of inattention.
Marking & Identification - Property-mark parts to make resale harder and help police identify recovered bikes.
Motorbike theft prevention is most effective when multiple security methods are used together.
