Bonfire Night - Celebrate Safely and Responsibly |
||
As we mark Bonfire Night on 5 November, we encourage everyone to enjoy the celebrations safely while helping to keep our communities secure. To support a safe and enjoyable evening, Local Police Officers will be proactively patrolling across the area, providing reassurance, engaging with residents, and responding to any incidents of crime, anti-social behaviour, or disorder. Where possible, attend organised firework displays run by qualified professionals. These events are designed to provide a safe environment for families and members of the community. If you are using fireworks at home, always follow the manufacturer's instructions, keep a safe distance, and ensure children are properly supervised. Never attempt to relight a firework that has failed to go off, and always have water available in case of emergency. Bonfires should be built away from buildings, vehicles, fences, and other flammable materials. Before lighting a bonfire, check carefully for wildlife that may have taken shelter inside. Never use petrol or other accelerants to start or maintain a fire. Bonfire Night can unfortunately lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, and nuisance incidents. We ask everyone to act responsibly and show consideration towards their neighbours and the wider community. Parents and guardians are encouraged to know where their children are, who they are with, and what activities they are taking part in throughout the evening. If you are attending a display, keep personal belongings secure and remain vigilant in crowded areas. Ensure your home is locked and secure if you are leaving for the evening, and do not leave valuables on display inside vehicles. Motorists should also be mindful of increased traffic and pedestrian activity around popular event locations and follow any temporary road restrictions that may be in place. Neighbourhood policing teams will be conducting high-visibility patrols throughout the Bonfire Night period. Officers will be working proactively to deter criminal activity, address community concerns, and ensure celebrations can take place safely. If you see anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, suspicious activity, or anyone placing themselves or others at risk, please report it. In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency incidents or reports of anti-social behaviour, contact 101 or report online. Together, we can make Bonfire Night a safe, enjoyable, and memorable occasion for everyone. Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy Bonfire Night responsibly.
