I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Parking Issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Due to the opening of the new 4G Pitch at Blaenavon Leisure Centre/Primary School, we are receiving reports of vehicles stopping, waiting, or parking on both yellow and white zig zag road markings.
These markings are in place for one reason: to protect children and improve visibility for all road users during busy footfall times.
❌ Yellow Zig Zag Lines Stopping or parking on yellow school entrance markings during their operational times is an offence and may result in enforcement action and a fixed penalty notice.
❌ White Zig Zag Lines White zig zag markings are commonly found on approaches to pedestrian crossings. Stopping or parking on these markings is prohibited as it obstructs visibility for pedestrians and drivers and creates a significant road safety risk.
When vehicles stop on zig zag markings, pedestrians may be forced to step into the road from behind parked vehicles, making them difficult for approaching drivers to see. This greatly increases the risk of a collision.
✅ Please help keep our communities safe by: • Parking legally and considerately. • Using designated parking areas where available. • Allowing extra time for your journey. • Avoiding stopping "just for a minute" on restricted markings. • Encouraging others to follow road safety rules around schools and pedestrian crossings.
If you are in the area using the pitch facilities we encourage you to park at the Reosurce Centre Car Park on Middle Coedcae Road, which is only a 2 minute walk.
Road safety is everyone's responsibility. By following these restrictions, you can help protect some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Think before you park. A few extra steps could prevent a serious collision.
