🎄🚴 Thinking of buying an electric bike this Christmas? Know the law before you purchase! 🚴🎄 With Christmas fast approaching, electric bikes are proving to be a popular gift for adults and young people alike. However, not all bikes advertised online are legal to use on UK roads, cycle paths and public places. ✅ A legal electric bike (EAPC) must: • Have pedals that can be used to propel the bike • Have a motor with a maximum continuous rated power of 250 watts • Stop providing electrical assistance when the bike reaches 15.5mph (25km/h) ❌ Some electric bikes sold online have been modified or are capable of travelling much faster without pedalling. These may be classed as motor vehicles in the eyes of the law. If that's the case, riders could require: • A driving licence • Insurance • Vehicle registration and taxation Failure to comply could result in the bike being seized and the rider being reported for offences. 🎁 Before you click "buy now" this Christmas, take a few moments to check that the bike you're purchasing is road legal in the UK. Let's make sure everyone enjoys a safe and lawful festive season. | ||
