Burbage Police Newsletter For November. Message From Sgt Cross, Youth House Parties And Road Safety Work.
Hello Resident,
We hope you are keeping well. Below is our monthly Newsletter for November and an update from the last week in Burbage. Our crime reduction catalogue is also attached to this email. Bit of a linger message today so grab a drink.
We have had several reports of youth related issues during the 30th and 31st of October. We have identified and dealt with one issue and continue to work with residents, businesses and schools regarding the other report. If you have any CCTV or information relating to youth related disorder (items being thrown, screaming/running in road, fence panels, door panel damage etc) on Brookside/Far Lash/Atkins Way/St Catherine’s Close area between 22:00-00:30 on the 31st, please get in touch so that we can ensure that those involved are held to account and parents are fully aware of what their child has been up to. A lot of these issues, whether it be Halloween, exam results or other house parties, can lead to youth related issues. If you are considering house parties for teenagers, please think about the nature of the party, number attending, the type of people attending and whether you are willing to take responsibility as an adult to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those attendingwhilst in your care. Update from Sgt Cross regarding recent Police activity in relation to the half term burglaries and vehicle crime.
“As you will all be aware residential burglaries features as a priority for your local beat team and despite a number of tactics being deployed over the last couple of weeks with the nights getting longer, we have seen an increase in reports. As a result of the increase, we have sought additional support from our specialist operations teams at Police Headquarters such as our traffic, firearms and dog departments to support us when not deployed at incidents with patrols on the beat.
Recently one eagle eyed resident spotted these teams out conducted their patrols using side lights to make sure no one was hiding in the shadows! You may have heard about this via social media – hopefully this additional presence of police vehicles will give greater reassurance to everyone that we are doing everything we can to make sure Burbage is not an appealing place for criminals to visit!
As a side note for anyone that was concerned, police vehicles are not subject to MOT tests as they undertake enhanced services every 6 months or 10,000 miles ensuring they are as roadworthy as possible – as you can imagine we don’t want to be driving on a blue light run if the cars are not as safe as possible!”
We have completed several community engagements this week which focuses on road safety and crime reduction.
Visit to Priesthills Nursery where the children checked out the Police car, tried on uniform and had lots of fun.
Visit to Castle court to discuss issues such as scams, anti-social behaviour and crime reduction. It was a pleasure to visit and speak to residents to address any concerns they have.
As part of our road safety work, we visited Hinckley Road news and Three pots post office where we have issued a range of items to the paper boys/girls, such as bicycle lights, reflectors and safety lights.
Visit completed to Hastings High school where we have fitted multiple bicycles with bike lights. It was very interesting to find lots of the year 7 bicycles had lights, helmets and locks whereas the older year groups did not. We continue to encourage parents to ensure their children wear a bicycle helmet and have working lights and use a lock if they attend school on a bicycle or scooter.
Burbage Police Newsletter November 2026
Issue: Autumn Update November 2026
PC Davidson PCSO Stretton Sgt Cross
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months.
Priority 1: Residential Burglary
You Said – Residents continue to tell us that residential burglary remains one of the crimes that causes the greatest fear within the community. Concerns have been raised about the increase in offences traditionally seen during the darker autumn and winter months, particularly between Halloween and Christmas. Reports and intelligence show that high-value items such as jewellery continue to be targeted, along with sheds, garages and outbuildings containing valuable property and tools. Community feedback, previous crime trends and seasonal crime patterns have all highlighted the need for a continued focus on burglary prevention and offender disruption.
Priority 2: Road Safety
You Said – Residents have consistently raised concerns regarding road safety, particularly around schools, residential streets and areas affected by speeding vehicles. Concerns increase during the autumn and winter months when darker evenings, poor weather conditions and reduced visibility create additional risks for road users. Feedback has also highlighted worries about dangerous driving, driver behaviour and drink or drug driving during the festive season. Community engagement, local reports and road safety data have all identified this as a priority for Burbage.
Priority 3: Vehicle Crime
You Said – Residents and local businesses have reported concerns about thefts involving vehicles, particularly tools being stolen from vans and the theft of motor vehicles. Previous years have seen an increase in tool thefts during October and November, followed by a rise in vehicle thefts during the festive period. These offences have a significant impact on victims, especially tradespeople who rely on their vehicles and equipment for their livelihood. Community concerns reported incidents and crime trend analysis have highlighted the need for proactive intervention before seasonal increases occur.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Residential Burglary - Over the coming months, your local policing team will continue to carry out targeted patrols in areas identified through crime data and intelligence. We will work alongside our neighbourhood watch networks and partner agencies to provide crime prevention advice, promote property marking and security measures, and identify vulnerable locations. Officers will conduct high-visibility patrols during peak offending times, pursue all available lines of enquiry to identify offenders and continue ongoing proactive work aimed at preventing burglary and reducing opportunities for criminals to operate within Burbage. During October, Burbage was targeted during the half term break, from around the 23rd to the 28th. There were multiple breaks to properties whilst residents were on holiday. Jewellery and cash targeted. Properties entered via smashing either patio doors or snap lock. We are completing work in the area regarding CCTV, target hardening and increasing overnight patrols. We are also continuing to support residents with crime reduction items such as window alarms and light timers. The darker nights and school holidays historically see an increase in these types of crimes so we continue to encourage people to implement crime reduction strategies to deter opportunistic criminals. Following half term, these reports have dropped off but we continue with patrols and crime reduction support for residents.
Road Safety – Over the next three months, officers will carry out targeted road safety operations at locations highlighted by residents and local data. We will work with Community Speed Watch volunteers to tackle speeding and educate drivers, whilst delivering road safety engagement within schools through initiatives supported by funding secured from the Police and Crime Commissioner. High-visibility patrols and enforcement activity will focus on speeding, seatbelt use, mobile phone offences and drink or drug driving. Our aim is to improve safety for all road users and address the concerns raised by the local community. During October, we have continued with work around E-scooters and completed patrols at Hastings High and the primary schools due to reports of parking o junctions and double parking. We have completed our final assemblies at schools to raise awareness around illegal E-scooters and darker nights personal safety. We also continue to seize, issue section 59's, and challenge vehicles that are causing road safety issues. As we head towards Christmas, there will be a focus on drink and drug driving as well as speeding. We have completed work with Hastings High and local shops (paper boys/girls) to support children with bicycle lights and road safety items, during the darker nights.
Vehicle Crime - We will continue targeted activity aimed at preventing theft from and of motor vehicles, including high-visibility patrols in identified hotspot locations. Officers will work with local businesses, tradespeople and residents to provide practical crime prevention advice and promote vehicle security measures. We will support ongoing crime prevention initiatives, including the use of forensic property-marking solutions such as SmartTrace, to make stolen tools easier to identify and recover. Intelligence-led operations will be conducted to deter offenders and identify those responsible for vehicle-related crime across the area. During October, there was an early report of a theft of motorbike, the bike was recovered locally and work completed in the area to identify those involved. During half term, there were several reports which included a theft of motorbike, attempt theft of motorbike, 2 BMW's stolen from an address as well as a theft of a VW Golf. We have implemented targeted overnight patrols to identify those involved, as well as deterring anyone coming to the area. There has also been lots of work with victims and residents in the affected areas. This work is ongoing over the next few months.
