REPORTS OF BOBBY KNOCKING IN PENCLAWDD

The Local Policing Team has received reports of individuals knocking on residential doors and leaving before the door can be answered ( BOBBY KNOCKING). Whilst this behaviour may be perceived by those responsible as a harmless prank, it can have a significant impact on members of our community. Please see the below information and the impact it can have on certain vulnerable members fo your community.

Door Knocking and Running Away: The Impact on Our Community

Whilst some may view knocking on doors and running away as a harmless prank, it can have a significant impact on residents and the wider community.

Those most affected may include:

Elderly residents.

People living alone.

Individuals with disabilities or mobility issues.

Residents suffering from anxiety, dementia, or other health conditions.

Victims of previous crime or harassment.

Families with young children.

Potential impacts on individuals:

Causes alarm, distress and frustration.

Increases fear of crime and concerns about personal safety.

Creates anxiety about answering the door.

Can leave vulnerable residents feeling targeted or intimidated.

May negatively affect mental wellbeing and quality of life.

Impact on the wider community:

Reduces residents' sense of safety and security.

Increases perceptions of anti-social behaviour within the area.

Can undermine community confidence and cohesion.

May create tensions between residents and groups of young people.

Generates calls for service and places additional demands on police and partner agencies.

Damages the reputation of the neighbourhood and can make residents feel less connected to their community.

If identified, those responsible may be subject to:

Words of advice from police officers or PCSOs.

Engagement with parents, guardians and schools.

Community Resolution outcomes.

Youth offending or diversionary interventions.

Anti-Social Behaviour warnings.

Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs).

Civil Injunctions or Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) in persistent cases.

Prosecution where offences such as harassment, criminal damage or public order offences are committed.
