A man has been arrested following an incident in Coast Road, Hopton. A man aged in his 40s who had been inside a property since 11.30am on Wednesday 4 November was arrested at around 2pm today, 5 November 2026. Officers were called at around 11.30am yesterday to a property in Coast Road, Hopton following reports a man had made threats when attempts were made to evict him. When officers arrived on scene the man was locked inside his address, refused to leave and said he had containers of petrol in the property that he would set fire to if anyone entered. Multiple police resources, including the drones’ team and trained negotiators, were deployed to the scene, and joined by emergency services' colleagues. The road was closed while the incident was ongoing and has since re-opened. A cordon remains in place. Several nearby properties and the local primary school were evacuated. However, following assessment, residents returned home. Two households remain displaced and efforts are underway for them to return to their homes as soon as possible. We would like to thank the public for their patience and assistance as we worked to manage this incident as safely as possible and bring it to an end. | ||
