Dear Residents,
Stay Alert - Don't Let Thieves Distract You Distraction thieves often work in pairs or groups. One person may try to distract you by asking for directions, dropping money, offering help, or drawing your attention away while another steals your belongings.
To protect yourself: Staying Safe at Cash Machines (ATMs)Before withdrawing cash: ✅ Check the ATM for any unusual attachments around the card slot or keypad. These may be card-skimming devices. ✅ Gently wiggle the card reader and keypad. If anything appears loose, damaged, or unusual, do not use the machine. ✅ Cover the keypad with your hand when entering your PIN. ✅ Be aware of people standing too close or looking over your shoulder. ✅ If anyone tries to distract you while using the ATM, cancel the transaction and leave. ✅ Use ATMs located inside banks or well-lit areas whenever possible. ✅ Check your bank statements regularly and report any suspicious transactions immediately. If You Become a VictimRemember: Stop, Think, and Stay Alert. A few seconds of caution can prevent theft and fraud.
