Local officers secured the arrest of a man suspected to be involved in the supply of Class A drugs during a midnight patrol in Barking Riverside. Officers first observed a vehicle travelling along Renwick Road without its lights on in the early hours of October 22. An examination of the number plate showed that the owner was concerned in possession with intent to supply drugs. After signalling for the car to stop, the driver was detained for a search, and officers found 15 wraps of heroin, as well as a quantity of crack cocaine in the vehicle. When in custody, a surgical glove that was concealed within the suspect’s underwear and containing further rocks of cocaine was uncovered. Emergency Response Inspector Craig Brummel said: "Our officers’ attention to detail led not only to the arrest of a suspect for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, but also the recovery of a significant quantity of additional crack cocaine concealed on the suspect and the identification of an offensive weapon. “Their professionalism in custody further resulted in the discovery that the suspect had provided a false identity, ensuring that the investigation was progressed accurately. “This was an excellent piece of police work which removed harmful drugs from the streets and demonstrated the value of robust stop and search and custody procedures." | ||
