🚨 THE INCIDENT 🚨 Last night myself and PC Reece were conducting routine burglary patrols when we came across an unusual amount of smoke - we walked the street checking every property and quickly identified that the smoke was coming from the roofspace of a semi-detached house. We immediately alerted our control room and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control - then began trying to alert the occupants. PCSO's Cara and Adam quickly arrived and evacuated neighbours.
With no answer at the address we forced entry, smashing a downstairs window and climbing through into the address - after checking every room, thankfully we found no persons or animals inside and cleared a route for firefighters to enter.
Leicestershire Fire & Rescue arrived promptly and thankfully were able to keep the fire under control, limiting damage to neighbouring properties. East Midlands Ambulance Service were staged at scene in case of any casualties, thankfully their skills were not required. The cause of the fire was determined to be a firework.
🙏🏼 THANK YOU 🙏🏼 We would like to extend our gratiitude not only to our colleagues in LFRS and EMAS, but to the community who came together to offer help and support, not just to the first responders on scene but to those affected by the incident. We would also like to thank Fairfield Community Primary School for opening their doors and alllowing us all use of their facilities.
✅ A REMINDER ✅ -If you are setting fireworks off, it is your responsibility to make sure you do so safely and responsibly. Avoid using 'rocket' type fireworks in residential areas for precisely this reason - once it is launched it becomes a dangerous, explosive object that can land anywhere and cause irrepairable damage. -Keep an eye out for neighbours, especially if they are not home. If this fire was left undiscovered for even a few more minutes it could have quickly become a significantly worse incident. -If you see any irresponsible use of fireworks please call us immediately.
