Make sure all doors and windows are locked, including back doors and side gates.
If you are going out to celebrate, leave a light on or use timer switches to make your home look occupied.
Avoid posting photos of expensive jewellery or sharing your holiday plans on social media.
Stay alert and report anyone acting suspiciously around your street.
Be aware that thieves sometimes ring the doorbell to check whether someone is in. If someone unexpected comes to your door and you are suspicious, call 999 and give details such as a description of them, their car and licence plate. They may ask for someone you don’t know or offer services such as gardening as an excuse.
Please look out for your neighbours, especially those who may be away celebrating.
